What’s the difference between AGM, Advanced GEL and Flooded Batteries?

Valve Regulated Lead Acid Batteries

Are sealed for life, there is no topping up and minimal gassing and therefore minimal maintenance is necessary. They are non-hazardous when used properly and can be used in most every day situations where power storage is required. They can also be installed and used on their sides or ends. There are 3 basic types:  AGM, GEL and Advanced AGEL. AGM provides economic high power solutions but are limited in terms of repeat cycle life. GEL provides good repeat cycle life but reduced power when compared to AGM. AGEL combines the best of AGM and GEL providing high power and good repeat cycle life in one battery. Power Batteries manufactures AGM and AGEL batteries.

Flooded Batteries

Are not sealed for life, they vent gas and sometimes need topping up so are therefore classified as hazardous. Higher maintenance is often required therefore. They may only be used in the vent up/ lid up position. These types are still utilised in many situations where ventilation can be provided during charging both for fixed , mobile and traction applications. Power Batteries supplies several ranges of Flooded Batteries.
